AYSC is a community service program under the AACC non-profit organization based in Oakland Chinatown. It is also sponsored and supported by OPD, and the program is run by youth from ages 12 - 21 or 6th to 12th graders. The mission of AYSC is to provide a youth-directed environment where members can develop social, leadership, analytical, and organizational skills to conduct projects successfully. AYSC hosts many events that allow members to interact, meet and make new friends while earning community service experiences. In addition to volunteering, AYSC offers members the opportunity to run for board positions in a safe environment that tolerates failures. Many skilled and experienced advisors are prepared to give up their free time in order to supervise and provide helpful guidance to the board members.
